Passivator 20 - Passivation Agent / De-contaminator
Passivator 20: Before a passivation agent is applied to the surface it is vital that the surface is free of contaminants that will inhibit the passivation process.
Passivator 20 is to be used either following a pickling operation or, if pickling is not required, following mechanical polishing operations.
A pre-clean operation is essential before any passivation treatment to open the surface up to the passivation medium. Any of the pre-cleaning products listed in our range can be used. See SRL technical desk for procedure.
This product conforms to ASTM A380 and the relatively new ASTM A967 codes for passivation of stainless steel.
Passivation explained
This term is used to describe the "artificial" rebuilding of the passive layer or passive film that renders the surface of stainless steel passive or corrosion resistant (it is the low level of electrical conductivity across this film that helps maintain corrosion resistance) NOTE: the surface will passivate naturally in an atmosphere containing oxygen, this is termed auto-passivation.
