Pipestopper™ Qwik Freezer Systems
'PIPE FREEZING' solutions from HFT:
The Qwik-Freezer kit is an easy to use CO2 delivery system this delivery system is specially designed to create an "Ice Plug" in a pipe.
The "Ice Plug" is created at the point a specially-designed jacket is posistioned around the pipe.
The jacket is connected to a cylinder of liquid CO2 via a high preasure cryogenicaly rated hose.
The space betweed the OD of the pipe and the jacket is immediately filled with liquid CO2 that instantlly expands to form solid carbon dioxide (Dry Ice) at a temperature of -109 F (-78 C). The "Ice Plug" which seals the pipe only forms at the section of the pipe that is covered by the jacket, so the resulting rise in pressure is very small.
Major Advantages
- Saves valuable time normally lost draining down & refilling a system, avoids complete shutdowns of systems & equipment. (such as in sprinkler or water supply systems)
- Liquid Carbon Dioxide is very cheap! Other "refrigeration" systems are much more expensive.
- 35 years of pipe freezing experience in virtually every piping field.
- 2" (50 mm) to 12" (50 to 300 mm) freezing solutions as standard • Large freezing zone making for a good size plug, competitive products use cooling "clips/clamps" (whether they use a refrigerant or CO2) these typically are narrow along the length of the pipe and do not actually conduct much heat away, nor can they do it quickly.
- Liquid CO2 delivery system "Dry Ice" is much colder! refridgerants tend to have typic temperatures of only -45ºC (-48 Deg F) CO2 "Dry Ice" is -89.4ºC ( -129 Deg F) it starts to go back to CO2 gas (boil) off at -78.5ºC
- Qwik freeze systems allow you the freedom to buy your own Liquid CO2 from your usual gas bottle supplier, so you are not BOUND to going back for EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENTS or REFILLS!.
- Some "Clip" system kits are supplied with enough coolant for a single freeze on a 3/4" pipe! Replacement coolants could cost as much as 2/3 rds the original cost of the whole system! A single 20 lbs CO2 cylinder holds enough liquid CO2 to allow as much as 18 x 3/4" pipe freezes.
- Refrigerant systems have to be recalibrated (recharged) over time. That is not cheap! A customer can buy a lot of CO2 for the difference in cost.
- Proven track record: End user application stories: For Qwik Freeze and Accu Freeze systems 4 inch system prevents shutdown and Accu Freeze allows repair on space shuttle Atlantis
Do and Do Nots
- DO be sure there is enough liquid CO2 on hand to finish the job (PIPE FREEZING TABLES).
- DO NOT - Try to freeze a flow of water
- DO make sure the CO2 gas bottle supplied has a siphon /dip tube.
- DO NOT - Try to freeze within 16" (406 mm) from the point of repair or 12" (305 mm) from a closed connection.
